Welcome to the American way. More money south of the border. Just like NASCAR building the fort Erie race track. Will it ever see any racing.

NASCAR was never building the track in Fort Erie.

That was some 'offshore' (Dubai) opportunists that thought they could scam governments into paying for a track they could then make a killing off of. In fact, NASCAR never asked for a track in this market and told these guys from the get go when they started 'promoting' a 'suggestion' that NASCAR would give them a date to stop using their name.

It will never happen. I don't use the word never lightly either.

The option on two main parcels of land is coming to an end and the land owners are completely done with these guys - they will be free to sell the land to anyone else now and buyers other than race track promoters will be lining up. The silly thing is that the offshore guys never really had any money as they couldn't afford to pay the two land owners the previously negotiated price. The land owners were not too swift as they got hoodwinked into a deal that hinged on several environmental and government approvals before the land could close but they had signed an 'exclusive' agreement that they couldn't sell the land to anyone else in the mean time.

So the Government says: we can't give you any approvals to alter streams and do work on the property and testing UNTIL you own the land. Catch 22 is that the developer can't/won't pay the two land owners their money. So the developers wrongly blame Government 'red tape' for holding up the deal when in fact it is the developers lack of money clearing Dubai banks to pay for the land! But people are told different things in the paper of course. Flim flam mode.

So every time the deal dragged on for which ever excuse this group wanted to use that day, they kept offering even lower amounts to the land owners to 'take the land off their hands' for what would be an even lower price. One of them a farmer, just wanted to retire and move away but he would be damned if he would give away the land like this so he held out for the original price agreement. No matter the phony PR you read in the news - the offshore people never had money to buy the land. Picture this: a $400M speedway and you can't come up with $2M out of this to buy the land?! This is the equivalent to ordering a new Mercedes and the dealer asking you to pay the air conditioning tax before hand and you can't come up with the $100!!

I have no proof of the following: but I have some well connected friends in Fort Erie that believe *promises* were made by a certain Niagara politician whom was in opposition at the time and whom hoped to be the next Premier, (until he blew his chances getting elected) to this group. They have held in here hoping that the current Government that has turned down public financing of this project three times will be defeated in the next election and that they can get the ear of the new Tory leader. I highly doubt Brown wants to get involved in a project that has ZERO ROI for the Province.

Private tracks for private enterprise - NOT private tracks ending up owned by the taxpayer after the owners go bankrupt.

Here's the CMA announcement

2018 FIM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SUPERCROSS - NO STOP IN TORONTO

The CMA understands the disappointment of Canadian fans upon learning that the schedule for next year does not include Toronto.

We assure everyone that the only reason is that Rogers will be undergoing extensive renovations, making the venue unavailable to Feld in 2018.
